What’s Happening in Harris Hall!

Hello all!

I am so happy to teach at GMS another year. I’m very excited for you to be a part of my seventh grade home! This year will be filled with learning, both inside and outside of the classroom, as we will not only learn from our textbooks, but also from each other and within ourselves.

My name is Tara (pronounced Tau-ra, not Tera )Harris and I’ll be your seventh grade Language Arts and Reading teacher this school year! I look forward to learning more about you so that I can know how to teach you better! I love reading and writing and hope to get a large percentage of my children to do the same. Reading is the foundation in all that we do, not just in my classroom. One of my goals is to have my students find a place where they can enjoy reading as a hobby, not a chore! I am a graduate from the University if Tennessee-Martin (Go Skyhawks! Please don’t ask what a Skyhawk is, I just naturally had school pride!) I double majored in Education, both Middle and High School because I could not decide which area I wanted to persue, so I did them both! I was a member of several groups and clubs there, so many that I will not bore you with the list here! I cheered in high school as well as in college, and I also worked for UCA as a staffer for years! I am currently one of the GMS Pom Sponsors and I enjoy that greatly.

I am also currently working on my Master’s degree! I enjoy learning all that I can about education, it’s a never-ending journey for me!

I have a wonderful family that supports me in the career that I have chosen. My two-year-old daughter Kelcie has developed a great love for reading, gymnastics, Dora, and pop-tarts! Parents I know how concerned I am about all that my daughter comes in contact with, please don’t hesitate to email me or ask questions concerning your childs performance in my class.
